The Man in Black

Tonight I watched an excellent program on television about Johnny Cash. He is someone I have deep respect for. The program talked about how he battled the demons of addiction all of his adult life. In spite of this constant battle, he wrote over 1000 songs and released over 50 albums of music. His music was and still is loved by many people all around the world. There are many things I appreciate about Johnny; his independence, his patriotism, his love for his family, and his music. He was not afraid to stand against popular opinion. I have to admit that I got choked up when they played his last music video, which is a cover of a Nine Inch Nails song. I believe that he has set a great example for others by having his own independent opinion.

Johnny Cash is a very big favorite of mine too. Alot of people in his time and in present time look(ed) down upon him for his repeated drug usage, but I see it as he was a man who worked really, really hard to get noticed and he had a hard life, and everyone makes mistakes, and that's how he dealt with his, he still seemed like a good man, and I sure love his music.

Computers in the Classroom

As a computer science instructor, I am someone who can appreciate the usefulness of having computers in the classroom. For the courses I am currently teaching, my classes are held in classrooms where each student sits at a desk with a computer. Now that I've spent 2 semesters teaching in these classrooms, I must admit to having mixed feelings about having computers in the them. On one hand, it seems useful to have computers in front of students as they learn how to use information technology. From my perspective, the computers are just a big distraction. Instead of paying attention during lectures, students are surfing the web, checking their email, looking at the latest messages on Facebook, instant messaging with their friends or playing games. It is so bad that there are times when only 1 or 2 students (out of 30 or so) are paying attention. I try to not let it bother me but I must admit that it really does. After a while I couldn't help but wonder whether it would be better to deliver lectures in classrooms without computers or to have the computers turned off during lectures. Some instructors feel the need to police the classroom and force students to pay attention during lectures. That is not something I prefer not to do. There are many opinions in the educational community on the use of computers in the classroom. I see your point. I too admit there are times I let myself get a little distracted, Sometimes there are things we are learning as a class and there are some who learn at a faster pace and get bored waiting for others to catch up so I assume thats why alot use the internet to surf the web during lectures, but I appologize for doing so on my behalf.

My favorite movie

this is my all time favorite movie, its about two irish brothers who decide to rid the city they live in of the "filthy" wrong doers, such as drug addicts, rapist, murderers, gangsters, mob bosses, any one who does wrong through their eyes, and they exterminate them. And they get away with it because the police are covering their tracks because the "saints" are making their job alot easier and they like what they are doing for the city.

My religous beliefs

I'm a science major, so growing up i read alot of books based on theories of evolution based on ideas of other scientists. I was rasied in the Catholic church, and both of my parents are very devoted Catholics, but growing up in that church seemed to turn me away, I don't have the same beliefs as my parents do. I believe that we evolved from tiny particles and over the past 100,000 years we went through many stages and evolved to the final stage we are in now. I believe in evidence, I believe in most of the theories that scientists support with actual evidence. If i am to put a label on my belief i would call myself a scientologist.

attention seeking

I'm a middle child of 4 children. The oldest is a boy, and the youngest a girl. The youngest and the second oldest my older sister seemed to get most of the attention growing up because they constantly were getting into trouble, now that they are grown up and out of the house my little sister seems to get the attention because she is so athletic and invloved in so mant things. I hardly know my parents because they are always too busy to ask how im doing, ask what im up to. I live in a house with two strangers.
